SUMMARY:Oktoberfest
DESCRIPTION:The First Oktoberfest\nOktoberfest’s roots can be traced back to 1810 in Munich\, which is in the Bavarian region of Germany. On October 12th of that year\, the future King Ludwig got married and invited the entire city to attend the celebration\, which included a large feast and horse races. \nIt was such a hit that they decided to repeat the horse races the following year\, and the tradition of an annual October gathering – now known as Oktoberfest – was born. \nThe Growth of Oktoberfest\nIn the early years\, an agricultural fair was added to the horse races to help boost the economy. By the end of the 1800’s a carnival aspect was added to the gathering\, which made the event more attractive to families. Over time the horse races stopped\, but the event continued to grow. As for Oktoberfest’s association with beer\, the early gatherings were peppered with beer stands but in 1896 they were replaced with large brewery-sponsored beer tents. \n \nOktoberfest Today\nWhile Oktoberfest celebrations are popular around the world\, the original Oktoberfest continues on in Munich. And despite its name\, it actually starts on a mid-September Saturday\, runs for 16 days\, and ends on the first Sunday in October. \n \nThe current iteration of Oktoberfest is a celebration of German culture\, food\, and (of course) beer. The only beer served at the event comes from the original 6 breweries in Munich\, and the celebration gets kicked off with the mayor tapping the keg in as few swings of the hammer as possible. \nBesides the food and beer\, the festival is full of traditional Bavarian music\, open-air performances\, a grand entry and parades\, vendor tents\, carnival rides\, a shooting competition\, and traditional German outfits. The two-week fair wraps up in dramatic fashion with a boisterous brass band and a gun salute.

Sometimes chaotic\, and nearly always with a glass in hand. \nAt the heart of the Carnivale is our shared curiosity to continue exploring and to inspire brewers to create with imagination. Yeast science\, regional cider production\, koji\, historical Scottish brewing\, Brazilian wood varieties and presentations on how to build a laboratory are equals to the liquids and ferments presented at the homebrew and fermenters market and the wild beers\, ciders and experiments poured and served by some of the most exciting producers around. \nAt the Carnivale we drink with a scholarly fervour! \n\n\n  \n\nCarnivale Brettanomyces is a wild beer festival dedicated to deviant fermentation. \nThe next celebration takes place in Utrecht between 20-23 June 2024. DESCRIPTION:VENUE AND TIMETABLE \n\n\n\nThe venue is the same as before – Ganddal bydelshus just outside Sandnes. The address is Olsokveien 1\, 4322 Sandnes. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 15:00. Fast Track entry for early birds and everyone on the guest list. \n\n\n\nBeers will be served from opening until 20:50. Venue closes at 21:00. \n\n\n\nAge limit for the whole festival is 18 years. \n\n\n\nTICKETS \n\n\n\nTickets for the festival are available on our Hoopla Page. \n\n\n\nThe system is simple and familiar: we’re doing one Friday session and one Saturday session. If you want to attend both\, you’ll get a discount. There’s a small number of early bird tickets available for an added discount. Early bird tickets also includes a fast track entrance. \n\n\n\nAll the breweries will have two different beers on tap each session\, in addition to a secret or two that will launch randomly at short notice throughout the festival. Every session will have unique beers – no repeats. All pours will be 100 ml. \n\n\n\nTickets include: access to the venue\, a sexy tasting glass\, and all the beers you want to sample – NO TOKENS NEEDED! \n\n\n\nTickets are non-refundable. \n\n\n\nFOOD\, SOFT DRINKS AND MORE \n\n\n\nFood will be available for purchase at the festival. We’ve selected four quality vendors for 2024: The Greek Food Truck\, Monella\, Black Box Burgers and Enigma Food. \n\n\n\nFresh\, locally roasted coffee from Bøllefrø will be available for free thoughout the festival. \n\n\n\nThere will also be bottled water\, soft drinks and snacks available for purchase. \n\n\n\nPUBLIC TRANSPORTATION \n\n\n\nAs for public transportation\, the bus stop is literally ten meters from the festival entrance. The 52 bus from Sandnes leaves every 30 minutes\, and takes about eight minutes to the venue. You can also jump on bus no. 22\, but you’ll have to get off at Sannerudkrysset and walk for 6 minutes. Use kolumbus.no to plan your journey. Download the app Kolumbus Reise (iOS / Android) to buy a ticket. You can get a one-way ticket that’s valid for an hour\, or you can get the 24 hour ticket\, that’ll give you unlimited travels for 24 hours. The tickets in the app is valid on both bus and train. The train leaves Stavanger every half hour\, and takes about 20 minutes to Ganddal Stasjon. From there the venue is a 12 minute walk away. For a taxi\, call 07000\, or use the Taxi App. \n\n\n\nACCOMMODATION\, EATING AND DRINKING \n\n\n\nIf you’re in need of somewhere to stay\, we recommend Stavanger. Comfort Hotel Square will give you a nice price if you book your stay through email (co.square@strawberry.no) or phone (+47 51 56 80 00) and tell them you’ll be attending the DGB festival. There might also be some good options on Airbnb. \n\n\n\nStavanger is packed with good quality restaurants. Our favorites include Zouq (Pakistani food)\, Mano or Panzanella (Neapolitan pizza) and Gådjå (Ethiopian). If you want a bit of high end dining\, you might want to book a table at Bellies (vegan) or Re-Naa. The legendary fish soup (catch of the day) at Fisketorget might also be worth a try. \n\n\n\nIf you want to go out for a drink\, the city has quite a few nice places to check out. If you’re looking for craft beer\, you want to go to På kornet\, Cardinal\, Hanekam\, Øst\, Cirkus\, or Bøker og børst. If you’re into just a regular pub\, The Irishman or Martinique is nice. For wine Norvald vinbar might float your boat. Blåveis can provide you with an awesome cider selection\, and also some cracking beers. In need of world class\, unique cocktails\, head to Pjolter og punsj and treat yourself to a Nordic Daiquiri. \n\n\n\nIf you’re staying in Sandnes\, Melkebaren might be worth popping by. If you’re staying in Bryne\, Mellombels ølstove and Brix brygghus is the place to be. \n\n\n\nVOLUNTEERS \n\n\n\nA festival doesn’t work without a backbone of high quality volunteers. Invitational 2022 and 2023 ran as smooth as it did solely due to the efforts of our team of volunteers\, so we’ll be inviting the same people to join us in 2024. However\, if you’d like to be part of that team\, please feel free to get in touch – we might need an extra pair of hands. \n\n\n\nBE NICE! \n\n\n\nWe care a lot for our breweries and volunteers\, and we’re committed to make them\, as well as our guests\, feel valued and respected\, so please be nice to everyone. The volunteers are giving up their valuable time for free\, to make your festival experience as good as possible\, and the brewery reps have traveled from near and far to meet you\, so please behave. \n\n\n\nWe will not tolerate discrimination of any kind\, and we will not accept rude\, piss drunk idiots. \n\n\n\nOur security team are highly trained in spotting morons and drunk people\, and if you get kicked out\, they’re instructed to cut off you wristbands and the festival is over and done with for you. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBREWERIES

DESCRIPTION:Hop City is back once again in 2024 at the OG home of Northern Monk\, The Old Flax Store! As ever\, we’ll be serving the best hoppy beers from all the world\, from hazy pales to light\, fruity IPAs\, and sour IPAs to big DIPAs & TIPAs. Once you’re through the doors\, you can sample as many beers as you like from around 35 different breweries\, enjoy food from our food vendors and kick back and enjoy the entertainment we’ve got planned for you. We brought back token purchases for last year due to the cost-of-living crisis and all other uncertainties we were all faced with. We love the all-in ticket method\, so this year we’ve decided to give you an option. While most tickets will head back to the all-in method\, we will also have a small allocation of tokened tickets available for those that are still sadly feeling the pinch. \n\n\n\nNow for the important details: \n\n\n\nAll breweries will finish pouring 15 minutes before the end of each session and we ask that all festival attendees leave the site at the end of the session. Please be aware that ‘last orders’ is between 30 minutes and 15 minutes of the session ending. This applies to people attending more than one session so we can carry out the appropriate cleaning measures. This also applies to token purchases\, and we will not be offering any refunds to token purchases\, so please be wary of overpurchasing Our experienced security staff are fully briefed on all safety measures and reserve the right to ask people to leave if they are acting in a way that compromises the safety of others.Our Everyone Welcome initiative plays out across all our sites and highlights the steps we take to maintain the safety of staff\, brewers\, volunteers\, and attendees. This initiative will be accessible throughout the festival as a reminder of our zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and that\, at Northern Monk\, everyone is welcome to share a drink at our table. We run our Everyone Welcome initiative and all breweries invited\, through our Diversity and Inclusion forum.
